Washington State mandates under its Shoreline Management Act (SMA) that local governments with shorelines considered “significant” must update their Shoreline Management Programs (SMPs) periodically.
Unfortunately, WA State’s SMA can be summarized by three broad and competing goals...
* Encouraging water dependent uses
* Protecting shoreline natural resources
* Promoting public access to shorelines
Further, the SMA directs that private property rights are to be protected and preferential accommodation will be made for single family uses.

Do you ever get together, or is your information only available online?
We conduct Community Meetings to network with each other, and to share timely information like the Lake Sammamish Timeline, the King County flood Control budget and other vital initiatives.
How can I support WSSA?
The Washington Sensible Shorelines Association is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization that depends on your support. There are two ways to support us.Your employer may have a matching gift program, you can double your donation by completing the matching gift form available at you place of work.
What makes you unique and why do I need to get involved?
Vision – Adoption of policies related to Washington States- Shoreline Master Act (SMA) and Shoreline Master Program (SMP) that is sensible, measurable, and protects property rights.
Mission – To assure the development of balanced, fact-based, measurable shoreline regulations that respect and preserve property rights of residential, park, and marina uses.
